Oka melon (Bizard Island Strain)

Origin - Canada. This was a popular melon in Canada's Montreal region in the 1920's and 1930's. Developed about 1912 by a Trappist monk at La Trappe, Quebec.  He crossed the green fleshed Montreal Market melon with a Banana melon.

Days till harvest - 85

Rind - Beautiful cream, ribbed and well netted.  Flesh - Bright salmon flesh that is very thick. A most delicious, sweet and juicy melon.  Fruit weight - 1-2 kg.

It is of strong habit, a fine setter. The Oka melon is the result of years of patient and intelligent selection from the product of Montreal Market crossed with a red-fleshed variety. Doesn't like cool, wet conditions.
